Yellow, Yellow, the Champion Fellow!
Yellow seems to be the colour which is gaining lot of importance on the sports field. No, not because sports lovers have any special liking for that colour, but most of the champions, individual as well as teams, have been sporting yellow colour tees or tracks or sometimes both. In the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup, the power of yellow was much significant with the Kangaroos going back to their ‘traditional’ colour after a brief stint with bottle green that had a tinge of yellow in it.
No one could have thought that the men from Down Under would go on to regain the world title going by the form and unfortunate incidents the team had to face prior to the big event. As if the loss of their team mate Phillip Hughes was not enough, their leader himself was indisposed before the World Cup and had to miss few matches. Also, the team was not in its best form, as according to pundits, the Aussies were going from worst slump in their history and had little chance to claim the title. However, Michael Clarke and his ‘yellow brigade’ proved everybody wrong and carved their team’s name again on the World Cup.
Similar is the case with the IPL team Chennai Super Kings. The CSK, as the team is better known, has won the IPL title twice and going with the current form, seems to be doing an encore in 2015. Ever since IPL came into existence in 2008, the team has been seen in the yellows with Indian skipper MS Dhoni at the helm. The team is one of the most feared ones in the cash-rich league and seems to be enjoying this status of theirs.
Yellow, the colour of sunshine, describes hope and happiness. Though it is not most loved by the people on this universe, it looks bright among various other colours. If it is combined with some other shades, then the person carrying or wearing it looks a bit different from others. Probably, the Cricket Australia and India Cements (owners of CSK) thought on the similar lines while finalising colour for their respective outfits. Anyways, we all must agree that both these teams have been entertaining in their own way and are true champions.
The other champion team that has been making yellow the colour of champions is Brazilian national team. The likes of Pele, Zico, Ronaldo, Romario, Bebeto, Dunga and others must have felt a sense of pride by wearing the colour of hope and happiness while dribbling the ball and netting goals for their team. No wonder, the team from South America has won football world cup five times.
Even the athletes and sportspersons competing in Olympics and other global events are vying for winning the gold medal, which is again yellow in colour. The power of yellow has no match. So next time, when you are wearing yellow and people tease you ‘yellow, yellow, dirty fellow’, just smile at them and move ahead thinking you are wearing the colour of champions.
